How this is calculated
The calculator walks this site's elongation model through the year and records each time the Moon-Sun angle is 180° (full) or 0° (new). It does not add a fixed 29.53 days to one seed date, because the orbit is not a circle. The mean synodic month used in the age figures elsewhere is 29.530588853 days.
Questions
Why can a local date differ from a UTC almanac?
The instant is the same. If it sits near midnight, the civil date in your zone and the UTC date can disagree by one day. Both clocks are printed for each row.
Why do some years have 13 full moons?
A mean month is a little over 29.5 days, so twelve months do not always hold twelve full moons. A thirteenth full moon in a civil year is ordinary geometry, not a special kind of moon.
What is a blue moon on this list?
When two full moons fall in the same civil month in this device's zone, the second row is labeled. Some calendars call that a blue moon. That is a folk name. This page does not use the seasonal blue-moon rule, and it does not claim the moon looks blue.
Does this include harvest moon or wolf moon names?
No. Those are folk names for the full moon of a given month. The table is dates and clocks only.
Whose time zone is this?
This device's zone. The page does not detect New York from your IP. A New York visitor sees America/New_York only if that is the zone set on their computer or phone.
