How this is calculated

The calculator searches this site's elongation model for the next time the Moon-Sun angle is 180° (full) and the next time it is 0° (new). It does not add a fixed 14.77 days to a single epoch, because the Moon's orbit is not a circle. The mean synodic month mentioned in the age figures elsewhere on the site is 29.530588853 days.

Questions

Why might this clock differ from a city almanac?

A published calendar uses a fuller lunar theory and a chosen time zone. This page uses a shorter set of terms and then labels local time and UTC. A difference of minutes to a few hours can appear.

Which time zone is printed?

The first clock uses the time zone you pick from the list. The second is UTC. The page does not detect a city from your IP. If the two dates disagree, the instant sits near midnight in your zone.

Does this include moonrise?

No. The page does not compute moonrise, azimuth, or when the moon looks largest in a given city.

What if the chosen date is already a full moon?

If the model is already at full or new, that same instant is the result. Otherwise, the calculator walks forward to the next crossing.

Where is the rest of the year?

The dates page lists every full moon and every new moon in a chosen year. This page is the nearest instants before and after one start date.
